PROJECT LOCATION

Our practice has been given the opportunity to work within the civic space of  Stretford in Trafford, Manchester. The two specified sites are located next to Stretford Public Hall and Newton Street bounded by Chester Rd, Edge Lane and the Bridgewater Canal, based in the heart of Stretford Town Centre. In conjunction with our MORPHOS's manifesto, we aim to create places shared among people of all ages, abilities, attitudes and occupations. By exploring  the sites through different scales and phases, we began to discover and and compare what truly defines the identity of Stretford with the percevied concepts from our laptop research.

ANALYSIS

The diagrams  above illustrate  the affect and effects  between the built environment and human activity. As the data suggests, our practice should  work on projects that prioritize  public spaces that caters to the need of the people, and not just serves as another  superficial landmark in the town center.  In addition, we would also like to stage an intervention by proposing a masterplan to help combat the issues with traffic congestion  and noise pollution around the A56 crossroads .

As we begin to develop our knowledge about Stretford as a place, we wanted to take a step further and examine who and what makes up the identity of Stretford .  According to the UK Census Data 2011,  despite  having demographic with a  huge adult  population,  unemployment rate were  considerably high. The majority of housing are terraced and semi-detached houses, creating a flatter context in contrast of the neighboring  towns.  The  diverse ethnic distribution  correlates  with  our practice's aims and presents  a platform  for us to design  architecture  as a commodity for all.
